You might not be able to rock your favourite pair of short shorts just yet, but what you should think about is getting your car ready for the spring/summer season. You may already be looking up spring car maintenance tips and if so, you’re in the right place.
Below are just a few tips and things to consider doing maintenance on before you’re stuck in a long car drive with all the kids asking “Are we there yet?” every five minutes.
Spring Car Maintenance Tips: Get Your Air Conditioning Inspected or Fixed
At some point this summer it’s going to get hot, very hot. At that point, you may be in a car, and the last thing you want to do is to have to drive 100km without air conditioning.
The best thing to do is to go to your trusted mechanic in Kelowna and get your whole AC system checked by the professionals. They’ll be able to let you know if you’re all good to stay cool or if you’ll need some repairs to beat the heat.
Replace or Buy a New or Used Set of Tires
If you haven’t already swapped to all-weather or summer tires, do it. Winter tires provide less grip and traction on hot roads as the rubber is designed to work best at cold temperatures.
If you notice your summer tires are looking a little rough for wear, make sure to replace them ASAP. We offer a wide selection of used tires in top condition that can last you several seasons for significantly less than the cost of a brand-new set.
Check All Fluids
Just as you need water to keep you moving so does your car need a variety of fluids to do the same. For the spring and summer, it’s best to inspect all fluid levels. This includes:
- Oil
- Power steering fluid
- Coolant
- Windshield washer fluid
- Transmission fluid
- Brake fluid
Make sure to fill each up to the proper level and/or replace them in the case of oil as needed. Coolant is especially important to check. If you notice after filling up your coolant that the levels are low again very quickly you may have a radiator leak that you’ll need to fix right away.
Replace Those Wiper Blades
Winter does a number on your car and that especially includes your wiper blades. Frost and ice can damage them or make them much less effective at actually wiping. If you’re seeing streaking across your main driver’s view it’s also dangerous for driving so make sure to replace your wiper blades as soon as possible.
Check Your Car Battery
Although car batteries last for a long time, they do die eventually. Getting ahead of any issues will mean you can always get to work on time when it matters most.
Check your car battery with a voltmeter, multimeter, or car battery tester. If the voltage is lower than 12V, it’s time to get a new battery before yours quickly dies on you.
All-in-all, by getting your car ready for spring and summer you can have the peace of mind knowing you can rely on it for those long drives. Except for the air conditioning maintenance, you can probably do most of the above maintenance yourself without any major issues, but if you’re convinced your car is worse for wear, it’s best to head to a mechanic to sort out any major issues.
